The steep hillsides of the Dazu area contain an exceptional series of rock carvings dating from the 9th to the 13th century. They are remarkable for their aesthetic quality, their rich diversity of subject matter, both secular and religious, and the light that they shed on everyday life in China during this period. They provide outstanding evidence of the harmonious synthesis of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism.

Las escarpadas laderas de la región montañosa de Dazu albergan un conjunto excepcional de esculturas talladas en la roca, que datan de los siglos IX a XIII. Estas obras rupestres destacan por su valor estético, la riqueza de sus temas religiosos y profanos, y también por la luz que arrojan sobre la vida cotidiana en la China de esa época. Ademí¡s, son un exponente extraordinario de la sí­ntesis armoniosa entre el budismo, el taoí­smo y el confucianismo.
